Integrating Artificial Intelligence in Redesigning Self-Access Center (SAC) for Language Learning

The existence of Self-Access Center (SAC) has proven to be significant in promoting language learning. Not only do learners learn a language, but they also build up autonomous learning where they use resources independently for their improvement. Indeed, SACs provide a set of resources that learners can access directly on their own management. However, in traditional settings, the features of SACs still emphasize the use of hardware and printed materials rather than digital media. Due to the widespread usage of information and communication technology (ICT) and artificial intelligence (AI), the conventional settings of SACs need reformulation in their design. In addition to hardware and software, AI is required to facilitate language learners. This paper aims to reformulate the design of SAC for language learning by integrating AI into the learning process. The method used is library study to search for literatures in the reformulation of the SAC design. The study is expected to provide an improved model for the rearrangement of SAC at University of Jember Language Center, formally called UPA Bahasa. As the building is currently being renovated, the new design will be helpful in providing future arrangement of SAC, thereby leading to better services in language learning development.

Enhancing Reading Comprehension in Higher Education: Exploring the Role of Artificial Intelligence in Teaching Reading

This paper explores how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming the way college teacher understand what they read. This research explores into the exciting world of AI-powered tools that help the teacher improve their competence in teaching reading comprehension skills teaching literal and inferential reading in this case. From personalized feedback to interactive learning platforms, AI is redesigning the landscape of higher education. This research is conducted in English Education Program Study at UIN Raden Mas Said Surakarta. The data is taken in Literal and Inferential reading class. This research is belonging to the qualitative research through interview and observation in three classes at first semester at 2024. However, while AI offers promising opportunities for enhancing teaching reading comprehension, there are also challenges to address, such as ensuring equitable access and training educators to effectively integrate AI into their teaching practices. This research provides an overview of the role of AI in pedagogy and its potential impact on reading instruction in higher education.

The advantages and Disadvantages of Quipper to Support Learning Interest of Reading Skill in Senior High School

Quipper School is considered suitable for digital-based learning, as it offers interactivity and supports the changing aspects of the learning process in the digital era, making it suitable for both online and offline classes. This research explains how Quipper is considered effective in teaching English and can increase students' learning interest in reading skills. This is shown from some of the advantages and disadvantages of using quipper such as (1) Quipper motivates students to read more (2) Quipper is a platform that supports digital literacy (3) Provides a platform for teachers to create accounts and codes for students (4) builds student learning independence (5) provides all materials for the class. As for the shortcomings, namely (1) limiting students' social and cultural interactions (2) not providing materials for all materials (3) Quipper School is difficult to use for students who have limited computer skills (4) Quipper school makes learning time narrower. The research was designed descriptive qualitative, focusing on the identification and description of phenomena related to the research topic using grounded theory while literature studies were used to gather information and support academic research. Hypotheses were built using paradigms. Data sources are divided into primary and secondary sources, with primary data collected directly from the field and secondary data obtained from third parties. The data collection technique is a literature study that explores theoretical and cultural references relevant to the social context. Content analysis aims to uncover content, consider context, and produce reproducible conclusions.

In addition, this study also aims to identify any weaknesses that may arise from the use of Elsa Speak in improving students' speaking skills. The research method used is descriptive qualitative, which begins with identifying relevant issues and building a theoretical foundation that supports this research. Through this research, it is expected to provide a deeper insight into the effectiveness and weaknesses of using Elsa Speak in improving students' speaking skills. Teachers’ Perception of Generative AI Tools for English Language Instruction

Artificial intelligence (AI) technology has become a major force in various fields, including language education. The introduction of generative AI tools into the English language teaching process opens up new opportunities and challenges. Therefore, this study aims to explore the perceptions of novice and senior English teachers regarding the integration of generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools in English language teaching. A qualitative case study approach was used involving 13 teachers, consisting of 6 novice and seven senior teachers in high school. Data were collected through questionnaires and semi-structured interviews and then analyzed using thematic analysis. The research findings indicate that novice teachers are more familiar with and tend to perceive generative AI tools as more useful compared to senior teachers. However, both novice and senior teachers acknowledge the potential benefits of AI tools in enhancing lesson planning, providing personalized feedback, and creating engaging learning experiences. Nevertheless, they also anticipate challenges such as insufficient training, technical issues, concerns about student engagement, as well as ethical and privacy issues. This study highlights the need for comprehensive training, adequate technological support, and further research to optimize the integration of AI tools in language teaching effectively and ethically.

Students’ Perception on the Use of Song to Enhance Their Motivation in Learning English

One of the keys to success in learning English is students motivation. It can be influenced by the way the teacher teaches in the classroom. The teacher must be able to make learning English fun to enhance students motivation. One of the ways is by using song. The use of song in learning English has many advantages. Therefore, this study aims to find out the students’perception on the use of song to enhance their motivation in learning English. This study was conducted at MTs Huffadh Al-Itqoniyyah. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method. The data is collected by using a questionnaire and an interview. To analyze the data, it is done through three steps: condensation, data display, and verification. The results of the study show that the students have a positive perception of using song in the process of learning English. The students responded positively to the following statements: the students became more enthusiastic about learning English; they are more happy, enjoyable, and active during the learning process; and they more focus and make them easier in learning English. All students agree that the use of song in learning English is very effective to enhance their motivation in learning English.

A Conceptual Paper on Exploring Genre-Based Approach in Indonesian EFL Education

Genre-Based Approach (GBA) has been proven effective in developing students' comprehensive and flexible language skills, so it has become a popular and hot issue. However, many teachers do not understand it. This conceptual paper is a literature review exploring GBA in English language teaching. The paper aims to provide collected studies and theories on the implementation of GBA in Indonesia, along with its advantages and disadvantages. It draws the data from some resources in journal articles, books, conference proceedings, and a government document. The GBA stages involve Building Knowledge of the Field (BKOF), Modeling of the Text (MOT), Joint Construction of Text (JCOT), and Independent Construction of the Text (ICOT). GBA is found to be able to build students' character, such as developing students' creativity and critical thinking skills. Nonetheless, GBA can also be time-consuming as it needs thorough preparation, and it's challenging, as well, if it is applied to teach low-achiever students. There are some teacher misunderstandings about GBA, so it is necessary to provide teachers with comprehensive training and simulations of the GBA stages to implement this method optimally.

Intercultural Communicative Competence Based Learning Model For Teaching Efl In Islamic Higher Education In 21st Century

The 21^st century present tremendous challenges and significant opportunities to EFL policy makers and educators in Islamic Higher Education as they need to formulate and implement proper curriculum and programs. Increasingly, they are being asked to design a learning model which can promote religious value while promoting foreign language competency. This conceptual research explores the potential of developing an Intercultural Communicative Competence (ICC) based learning model for teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL) in Islamic higher education institutions. Drawing on existing literature in EFL pedagogy, intercultural communication, and Islamic education, the study proposes a conceptual framework for such a model. The framework emphasizes the integration of Islamic values and principles with EFL instruction to foster intercultural awareness, respectful communication skills, and critical thinking in students. Through a review of relevant literature, the study identifies key elements and learning activities that could be incorporated into the ICC-based model. This includes techniques for promoting self-awareness, fostering intercultural understanding, and developing practical communication skills in an EFL classroom. This conceptual research contributes to the field by laying the groundwork for a more comprehensive ICC-based learning model specifically tailored for Islamic higher education institutions. By bridging the gap between Islamic values and EFL pedagogy, the proposed framework offers valuable insights for educators seeking to equip students with the skills necessary to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.

Enhancing English Learning for Young Learners: A Content Analysis of English Textbook “My Next Words” Grade 1

English communication skills are essential for primary school pupils in the worldwide world of today. Nonetheless, fulfilling the many learning demands of kids can be difficult in typical classroom environments. The purpose of this study is to investigate the efficacy of textbooks for primary school students and determine whether or not they may be combined with additional media to improve English language learning. Using a qualitative research method, data were gathered through content analysis and teacher interviews. Results showed that the textbook is inclusive, has clear concepts, and supports 21st-century abilities. It also satisfies curriculum goals. It does, however, require updates, better teacher support, and improved language features and pronunciation drills. Although the design is attractive, it calls for additional resources and better materials. Pedagogically, instructors should fill in gaps in the textbook by adding current resources and a variety of exercises. Along with ideas for future study paths, recommendations are given for improving English learning through the integration of textbooks and supplemental media. Its ultimate goal is to improve primary students' English language competency in a globalized world. Future studies should examine the effects of additional resources on student outcomes using bigger sample sizes.

Comparative Analysis of Duolingo and Memrise for English Language Learning

With the growing number of language learning applications available, learners face difficulty choosing the platform that best suits their needs. Two AI-based language learning applications that are popular among language learners are Duolingo and Memrise. Duolingo emphasizes gamification and grammar, while Memrise focuses on spaced repetition and vocabulary. However, a clear understanding of how these differences impact user experience and learning outcomes remains limited. This proposed research conducts a comparative analysis of these two platforms, focusing on the experiences of university students learning English. The study focuses on a systematic review investigating the two apps. By synthesizing research findings, this review aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of Duolingo and Memrise for language learners. This knowledge can inform future research on language learning app design and guide users in selecting the platform that best suits their learning goals and preferences.

The Language of Respect: Exploring the Dynamics of Honorifics in a Balinese-Japanese Marriage

This study focused on the dynamics of honorific usage in the context of a Balinese-Japanese marriage family in Payangan and Ubud Distric of Gianyar Regency, as this intermarriage can be found easily. This study aimed to explain how language serves as a tool for respect and social harmony. The data of this research were in the form of dialogue between Balinese and Japanese in daily life. The method used in collecting the data was observation method that support by listening and note-taking. Through qualitative analysis, this research examined the common patterns and the types of honorifics found in the interaction and the cultural factors influencing the use of honorific. These findings revealed diverse linguistic practices, in which honorifics function not only as linguistic markers, but also as embodiments of cultural values and relational hierarchies. By studying how respect is expressed in Balinese-Japanese marriages, this research helps us better understand intercultural communication and life in a multicultural society.

For this research, the sample of research is 3rd semesster students in English Education Program. The convenience sampling was used for the sampling technique. In the research itself, there are 30 participants who divided into two different groups; experimental and control group. The result from this discussion is by upholding moral and ethical standards aligned with Islamic teachings, respecting cultural diversity, and using clear, accurate, and appropriate language, EFL instructional materials can be designed in a manner that aligns with Islamic values. Incorporating Islamic values and teachings within the instructional materials, where relevant, allows for a comprehensive approach that promotes not only language proficiency but also moral and character development in line with Islamic principles. Including elements of Islamic history and culture in the materials further promotes intercultural awareness among learners, fostering respect and understanding of different cultures.

In order to increase students’ knowledge and communicative skills, English teachers need to choose and use the right strategy. In SMP N 2 Sampang, a teacher uses some interesting strategies to teach speaking. Through those strategies, most of the students can achieve good grades in speaking assessments. The purpose of this study was to analyze the teacher's speaking strategies and describe how each strategy was implemented. The methods used in this study were field research and qualitative methods. The Data collection was carried out using observations, interviews, and documentation. The Data analysis techniques were reduction, display, and verification. Based on the research, the strategies used by the teacher were Drilling and Dialogue practices. The strategies were implemented using the same topic material, which consisted of day, number, and month names. Students can implement drilling strategies by imitating, repeating, and focusing on material accuracy. The teacher then instructs the students to pair up with their friends and practice the dialogue then write down the results.

Perception Of Efl Student On Using Twitter As A Learning Media For Opinion Writing

In line with the development of new technologies, social networks have provided technologies to facilitate learning a second or foreign language. This study aims to find out student perception on using Twitter as leaning media for opinion writing. Twitter as one of the social media platforms used to aid language learning, has gained teachers' attention and has become a possible medium to boost students' writing abilities. This investigation used a qualitative research methodology that involved one participant, and the data was gathered through a semi-structured interview method. The findings demonstrated that the EFL student’s had a positive attitude regarding the use of Twitter for opinion writing. This study found that Twitter was an effective tool for broadening their understanding of various viewpoints, honing their writing abilities, motivating the EFL student’s to write opinions, and soliciting feedback from their peers and educators. However, this study discovered that Twitter might be a source of distraction and that it was vital for them to limit the amount of time they spent on the platform. According to the results of this study, EFL student’s learning to write opinions in English as a foreign language find Twitter as a useful tool.

The Use of Elsa Speak as the Pronunciation Learning of Students English Education Study Program at the UIN Prof. K. H. Saiffuddin Zuhri Purwokerto

This study aims to evaluate the use of Elsa Speak as a pronunciation learning tool for English Education Study Program students at UIN Prof. K. H. Saiffuddin Zuhri Purwokerto. The research method used is qualitative method with data obtained from interviews and questionnaires with participants totalling 20 students. Data was collected through pronunciation tests before and after using Elsa Speak and questionnaires to evaluate students' perceptions of using this application. The results showed that using Elsa Speak significantly improved the students' English pronunciation skills. In addition, most students responded positively to using this application in their learning. The implication of this study is the importance of utilizing technology in learning English pronunciation and the need to integrate Elsa Speak into the English Education Study Program.

An Analysis of Expressive Illocutionary Acts in the Movie “Migration” by Benjamin Renner

This study aims to identify the types of expressive illocutionary acts employed in the movie 'Migration' directed by Benjamin Renner. This study applied a descriptive qualitative method. The object of this study was the English subtitles of the movie 'Migration', which was created and released respectively by Illumination in 2023. The researcher found 43 data of expressive illocutionary acts, which were divided into 4 types with the following description: expressive illocutionary acts thanking (23 data, 53.48%), apologizing (8 data, 18.6%), praising (5 data, 11.62%), and welcoming (7 data, 16.27%). The implication of the findings from this study for English Language Teaching lies in its potential to serve as authentic teaching material for educators to address Pragmatics, particularly focusing on Speech Acts.

The objectives of the research are;(1) to Analyse whether FGD Collaborative Learning Technique is more effective than cooperative Learning Technique in teaching English skill for the sixth semester students of Tarbiyah of UIN Prof. K.H. Saifuddin Zuhri Purwokerto in the academic year of 2023/2024, (2) to analyse whether the English skill of the students having high motivation is better than that of those having low motivation; and (3) to analyse whether there is an interaction between teaching technique and motivation in teaching English for the sixth semester students of Tarbiyah of UIN Prof. K.H Saifuddin Zuhri Purwokerto. The technique that was applied in this research was an experimental study. It was conducted at Tarbiyah by UIN Prof. K.H. Saifuddin Zuhri Purwokerto in the academic year 2023-2024. The population of the research is the sixth semester of Tarbiyah at UIN, Prof. K.H. Saifuddin Zuhri Purwokerto, in the academic year 2023-2024. The samples were divided into two classes. In taking the sample, the cluster random sampling technique was used. Each class was divided into two groups (the students who have high motivation and the students who have the students who have low motivation). The researcher obtained quantitative data. They are the students ‘scores on the’ English test after having eight times of treatment for each class. The researcher analyzed the data using ANOVA and the Turkey test. Based on the results of the data analysis, the research findings are: (1) the FGD collaborative learning technique is more effective than the cooperative learning technique to teach English for the sixth semester of UIN Prof. K.H. Saifuddin Zuhri Purwokerto; (2) the English skill achievement of the students with high motivation is better than that of those with low motivation; and (3) there is an interaction between teaching technique and motivation. Based on these research findings, it can be concluded that FGD Collaborative Learning Technique is an effective technique to teach English in the sixth semester of UIN Prof. K.H. Saifuddin Zuhri Purwokerto.

The Use of Video-Based Learning with Interactive Quizzes to Foster the Acquisition of English Vocabulary: A Case Study at an English Course in Indonesia

The present study aims to explore the use of video-based learning with interactive quizzes as an addition to the English as a Second Language (ESL) vocabulary learning process for elementary school students at an English Course in Indonesia. This method is implemented with the aim of enhancing students’ vocabulary understanding and improving the retention of learned material. The study used a qualitative case study. The research participants consist of students and tutors from private lesson in elementary school involved in using video-based learning with interactive quizzes. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with tutors and active observations during the learning process. The results indicate that the use of this method encourages student engagement and motivates them in learning. However, several challenges were also identified, including the need for more varied teaching materials that are responsive to students’ abilities, as well as the necessity for more active guidance from tutors. Implications are discussed in this study.

Reading Literacy In a Multiligual Context: Challenges and Strategies for Senior High School Students In Indonesia

This study aims to investigate the types of text-based reading comprehension instruction and reading literacy improvement strategies used with students. The study identifies challenges in implementing reading literacy improvement strategies due to inadequate resources in public high schools and aims to equip high school teachers and curriculum support officers with the necessary skills and training. By using the right strategies, it is expected that students will be more motivated and have better reading skills. The method used in this study is a qualitative approach by conducting interviews with three high school students. The main findings in this study indicate that teachers and students need to engage in reading literacy to meet students' needs and encourage the use of familiar reading comprehension strategies every day. The study aims to investigate vocabulary proceeds in second language learning for EFL students in Indonesia. The qualitative descriptive method was used in this study. Data were collceted through interviews, observations, and documentation. The results show that the strategy in learning vocabulary is by knowing the basics and media that can be used. To increase vocabulary, students can go through various online and offline media, such as dictionaries, storybooks, applications, movies, online podcasts, songs, and the biggest influence is through language courses.

Elsa Speak App: An Alternative Media to Improve EFL Students’ Speaking Skills in Indonesian Higher Education

The present study aims to explore the implementation of the Elsa Speak application to improve the English learning process, especially in speaking ability. In addition, the study explores the perceptions of students in Indonesian higher education regarding the use of the Elsa application and the benefits of the application to convince students out there to be confident in using this application. In collecting data, the authors used qualitative and quantitative methods. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and questionnaires. The findings revealed that students' English speaking skills have improved after using the Elsa application in the learning process. This can be seen from the interviews with participants and the final results of filling out the questionnaire. Therefore, the results of the study provide a contribution that the role of the Elsa Speak App is beneficial to increase the motivation of EFL students to learn speaking skills. The implication is discussed in this study.

Classroom Interaction and Communication Strategies in English Learning: A Case Study at an Indonesian Elementary School

In response to the needs of English language teaching in elementary schools, the case study explores the implementation of classroom interaction and communication strategies in English learning. This study aims to determine the learning strategies, communication process and the use of communication media applied in learning English in elementary schools. The data for this study involved English language teachers from an elementary school in Central Java, Indonesia. The study used qualitative methods by interviewing teachers to understand their views and experiences in managing classroom interactions and implementing communication strategies. The results from these interviews provided in-depth insight into teachers' practices for English language instruction at the primary level. The findings revealed that primary school students were more enthusiastic in learning. However, some obstacles were noted, including a shortage of projectors, the use of laptops, and the school's limited network. The implication of the research is that it provides valuable insights for curriculum development, teacher training and English language learning strategies at primary level, both in Indonesia and globally

Autonomous Learning Material with Mind Mapping for EFL University Students: A Study of Extensive Reading

The current educational paradigm has changed, shifting from teacher-centered to student-centered. Self-directed learning is now one of the most discussed topics. Therefore, a methode is needed to improve students autonomous learning. This study aims to explore the use of Mind Mapping media as a learning tool to teach broader reading skills, to improve memory, and note-taking skills. The present study used a qualitative case study approach based on self-directed learning. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews with four EFL students consisting of two female and two male students at a university in Indonesian higher education getting involved in an extensive reading class. The results show that students' learning attitude is positively affected by autonomous learning with Mind Mapping. In other words, this method gives students the opportunity to experiment and take full responsibility for their own learning process. So that it can open the role of student creativity. Finally, The implication is discussed in this study.

Films and Online Games : Fostering English Pronunciation and Vocabulary Development of EFL Students in Indonesian Secondary Schools

School learning or often called formal learning needs to be supported by other learnings to get maximum results from the learning. The results show that most studentshad positive response toward the use of film and online games can foster English pronunciation and vocabulary development. Do quizzes facilitate EFL Students in Learning English? A Case Study at Indonesian Higher Education

Responding to the needs of English language learning in a university, this case study examines a technology utilization applied in English language classes by using a quiz application in learning English as a foreign language tailored to the needs of students in the classroom. The data for this study were collected from interviews with six students studying in the English department of an Islamic university in the city of Kudus where English is one of the foreign languages (EFL). To analyze the data, this study used a qualitative approach method with interview and documentation. The findings show that the use of quizizz apps in learning English as a foreign language in the classroom raises various discussions such as students' perceptions that quizizz application is an interactive, effective, interesting and fun learning application for developing English learning. Particularly, students reported that the use of quizizz had an effect on vocabulary and grammar improvements. In addition, it fosters reading skills to students.

The Impact of English Language Training Intensity on Students’ Success in Obtaining Study Abroad Scholarships

This study investigates the impact of English language teaching intensity on students’ success in obtaining study abroad scholarships. Using a qualitative case study, data were collected through questionnaires distributed to three university students who received abroad scholarships. In education, the ability to communicate in English is very important especially to get the opportunity to study abroad. The finding shows that students who complete intensive English language training are more likely to receive scholarships to study abroad. This study provides a dedication to deepening the understanding of the relationship between the intensity of English language training and students’ success in achieving their educational goals abroad and to determine the extent to which the intensity of English language learning affects students’ success in scholarship competitions. The findings of this study are expected to provide valuable information to support efforts to improve the quality of English language education in educational institutions.

Developing English Listening Skills: The Use of Fairy Tales and Folktales in Indonesian Elementary School`s

This is due to the increasing cross-cultural exchange and the need for multilingual communication in an increasingly interconnected global environment. This explorative case study examines the use of fairy tales and folktales to develop listening skills in English language learning in elementary schools. Data for this study was collected through interviews conducted using a semi-structured approach with two English teachers who teach in two elementary schools in Central Java, Indonesia. This research used a qualitative case study approach to analyze the data. The results show that fairy tales and folktales can help develop English listening skills among primary school students in Indonesia. However, there are some challenges in implementing fairy tales and folktales as a means to develop listening skills in primary school students such as the non-integration of these methods into the curriculum, and challenges in material selection. The implications are discussed in this study.

The focus of this study includes how English skills are improved through Kpop, how Kpop affects interest in learning, and how social media impacts interest and ability to learn English. This study used a quantitative method by giving questionnaires to six K-pop fan students. The results show that the use of KPop as a learning tool provides significant results in improving students' English skills. Moreover, K-Pop can be considered as an effective tool to assist students in improving skills based on their interest in learning the language. This study provides insight into the potential use of other media that match students' interests to improve the effectiveness of English language learning in Indonesia.

The Use of Artificial Intelligence in Assessing and Improving Public Speaking Skills: EFL Students' Voices in Indonesian Secondary school

The presence of innovation-based discourse learning applications, especially English Language Speech Application (ELSA), human-made intelligence (computer-based intelligence) can advance EFL students' speaking performance. This exam seeks to analyze the speaking performance of EFL students by utilizing the ELSA speaking application, further investigate their insights, and find out the inhibiting variables that influence their low performance in speaking. This exploration configuration uses qualitative descriptive techniques. Aimed at finding out students' views on using the ELSA application in learning English speaking skills. The population in this review consists of secondary school students in Indonesia. Meanwhile, the example of this review is 20 middle school students who were interviewed and 6 students who had to explain their perceptions in using ELSA Speak. Remembering that previously students had involved the ELSA application as a learning medium to develop ways of expression in English subjects. In collecting information, experts used a survey consisting of four questions. The questions that scholars ask depend on educational methods that are most effective for articulating EFL. Based on the results, 13 students agreed that using the ELSA application to practice speaking English could help them and students also agreed that the ELSA application could also increase student independence in learning anytime and anywhere by utilizing technology in education. The ELSA application was created to overcome problems student; 74% of respondents agreed with this statement and agreed that the ELSA application works with speaking guidance. In addition, the scientist asked students simple questions in a work to identify weaknesses in the ELSA application. Because the app's voice input uses Google Voice, some students said they anticipated the voice would sound like a local speaker.

Honorific System in Balinese Community Stratification

The honorific system includes a variety of words used to greet other people, which often reflect social hierarchy, status, age, and the type of relationship in an interaction between speech participants. This descriptive research aims to describe the greeting system used by the Balinese people. This research uses research data in the form of dialogue between speakers and speech partners, at family social gatherings and community social gatherings held in banjar halls in Badung district and Denpasar municipality. The observation method uses data collection techniques by listening to every interaction that occurs, recording to make it easier to collect data which will later be described according to the context of the situation and recording every interaction that occurs. Pragmatic matching techniques are used to analyze the use of greeting words, making it easier to analyze according to the objectives of the research. The results of the analysis are described using ordinary words so that they are easily understood by readers. The results of the research found that honorifics not only function as greetings but also contain the meaning of greetings spoken at the beginning of the interaction. Honorifics also change over time, due to modernization factors and social changes. However, despite this, the phenomenon of honorific systems in the context of social gathering situations still reflects traditions and cultural values. A more relaxed communication style is also becoming more common, especially among the younger generation or in more informal situations. However, honorifics will be more formal if they are in the context of a social gathering situation, in interactions with people who are older or from a higher level of society. Both in traditional stratification based on birth (caste) and modern stratification (social status). Using appropriate greetings can create a warm, friendly and respectful atmosphere among participants, while still paying attention to the social and cultural norms that apply in Bali. honorifics play an important role because they are determined by traditional social and cultural hierarchies so that the honorific system of Balinese society greatly influences social interactions, the formation of cultural identity, and ongoing changes in society. It is hoped that the results of this research will provide deeper insight into the greeting system for the community.

Looking Back and Looking Forward: Learners` Narratives Toward The Rapid Shift Of The Educational Landscape Due To Covid - 19 Pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted the educational system, leading to a shift towards online learning. This descriptive-qualitative study aims to reveal the learners' perception of the effectiveness of online learning during the pandemic. Fifteen (15) participants were selected using the convenience sampling technique to effectively fulfill the study's objective. The researchers employed three (3) research questions and seven (7) guide questions for the data collection process by conducting in-depth interviews online through a virtual meeting platform. The findings of this research unveiled that the advantages of online learning include accessible information, cost efficiencies, choice of time and place, accommodation of learning style, and independence in learning. The challenges stated by the participants include locations, resources, lack of discipline, access to the internet, limited communication, student participation, underutilization of teaching materials, and problems with monitoring and assessment. In order to address these concerns, this study collected students' recommendations regarding a compelling blend of face-to-face and online instruction. Therefore, this research implies that the best practices stem from an awareness of technology advancements in teaching and learning and their successful integration with approaches, focusing on resolving the identified challenges, as required by education in a post-pandemic discipline.
