This study explores the role of diagnostic assessment and Artificial Intelligence tools in determining students’ learning needs at MAN 2 Pamekasan. Therefore, the study employs qualitative desciptive design through semi-structured interview with a teacher of English at the school. Result of the interview demonstrates that the assesment has an important role in deciding the teaching and learning design. It is because it could give the teacher a reference about the students’ initial competence of a material will be taught, whether the students master or need more additional guidance related to the material. Then, the teaching and learning design will be tailored with the students’ competence and learning style in order to meet the students’ need. Moreover, with the development of globalisation, the teacher is facilitated in designing the diagnostic test because of Artificial Intelligence tools. The teacher feel greatly helped with the tools because it could be more efficient and practice. Therefore, it is crucial to blend the diagnostic assessment design and the intelligent tools in determining the students’ need effectively.
