Abstract

This study aims to analyze the development and structure of Artificial Intelligence (AI) research in English Language Teaching (ELT) through a bibliometric approach. The research focuses on identifying publication trends, thematic patterns, and collaboration structures within the field. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, keyword co-occurrence, and network analysis with tools such as VOSviewer to map research trends and thematic clusters. The findings show a significant increase in publication output, particularly after 2023, with 2025 recording the highest number of publications. Key research themes include chatbot technologies, AI-assisted writing, student learning, and digital learning environments. Among these, chatbot-related studies demonstrate the highest average citation impact. The results also indicate that a small group of authors contributes substantially to the field, while technology-oriented journals exhibit higher citation influence compared to ELT-focused journals. In conclusion, AI in ELT is a rapidly expanding research field with increasing scholarly attention and evolving thematic focus. This study contributes by providing a structured overview of research trends and identifying key areas for future investigation.
