Bahasa Ilmiah dalam Al-Qur’an Berbahasa Latin: Studi atas Terjemahan Robert of Ketton dan Mark of Toledo

The movement for translating scientific works or holy books in the Middle Ages influenced the flow of scientific thought at that time. The translation of the Qur’an into Latin was first carried out by Robert of Ketton and Mark of Toledo with the motivation of church activists. This article will discuss the focus of examining scientific language, especially astronomical terminology, in the Latin Qur’an translated by Robert of Ketton and Mark of Toledo, in the Journal of Qur’anic Studies by Julian Yolles. The method used in reviewing the translation of Robert and Mark is to use a content analysis approach by presenting the source of the commentary book to find the meaning of the verse and then comparing it with the translation of Robert and Mark in Latin, which focuses on astronomical and medical terminology. The results of this research were that many incorrect and ambiguous translations were found by Robert of Ketton and Mark of Toledo in translating astronomical and medical terminology, so that it was not follow the meaning of Arabic in interpreting astronomical and medical verses.
