Tajwid dalam Naskah Arab Pegon: Analisis Isi Kitab Tuhfah al-Aṭfāl dan Relevansinya bagi Pendidikan Pesantren di Jawa

The Tuhfah al-Aṭfāl, a classical Arabic Pegon text, represents a significant contribution to the transmission of tajwīd (the science of Qur’anic recitation) in the context of Javanese Islamic education. Originally authored by Shaykh Sulaimān ibn Ḥusayn al-Jamzūrī, this didactic poem (naẓm) has been translated into Javanese using Pegon script by Kiai Aḥmad Muttahhar, making it accessible to a broader audience of santri (students) in traditional Islamic boarding schools (pesantren). The primary objective of this study is to examine the textual characteristics and structural composition of the Pegon version of Tuhfah al-Aṭfāl, with particular attention to its pedagogical presentation and local linguistic adaptation. This research employs a qualitative literature review method, focusing on textual analysis of primary sources and the interpretative context in which the translation operates. The study finds that the use of Arabic Pegon script in the Javanese translation not only preserves the phonetic and semantic integrity of the original Arabic text but also aligns it with regional linguistic norms. The structured and accessible presentation of tajwīd rules in this text facilitates learning among students and the lay Muslim community. Furthermore, the translation contributes to the ongoing preservation and revitalization of the Pegon script tradition in the Indonesian archipelago. In conclusion, Tuhfah al-Aṭfāl in its Pegonized form serves both as a pedagogical tool and a cultural artifact, bridging classical Islamic scholarship with local vernacular expression
